MEGA TROOPERS

Medium

Wait until a base scores to use all kinds of strong Special abilities.

Description

Meet the Mega Troopers, a faction from the Big in Japan expansion. This team of heroes excels at joining forces to achieve victory, often turning the tide of battle in their favor at the most critical moment. They are joined in this set by three other unique factions: the Itty Critters, the mighty Kaiju, and the enchanting Magical Girls.

Cards Overview

The Mega Troopers faction is composed of 10 minions and 10 actions, boasting a unique titan among their ranks. Their minions pack a total base power of 30, averaging 3 power per minion. However, the faction's true strength lies in its numerous ability-enhanced minions, which can significantly surpass their base power values. Delving into their action cards, the Mega Troopers have a distinct lineup, featuring no play-on-minion or play-on-base actions. Instead, they rely on 10 standard actions, including four that manipulate one or more minions: **Blitzing Sword Attack**, **Form Megabot!** (available twice), **It’s Blitzin’ Time!** (also available twice), **Lightning Crystal**, **Lightning Rescue!**, **Mega Attack**, **Plan For More!**, and **Power Pose**. Notably, two of these actions - **It’s Blitzin’ Time!** (with two copies) - directly amplify a minion's power, further bolstering the faction's capabilities.
1x Blitzing Sword Attack - Special: Before a base scores where you have a titan, if you are not winning there, destroy a minion there of power 4 or less. 2x Form Megabot! - Play or move Megabot to a base where you have at least two minions. 2x It’s Blitzin’ Time! - One of your minions gains +3 power until the end of the turn. 1x Lightning Crystal - Destroy an action on a base or on a minion. 1x Lightning Rescue! - Special: Before a base scores, play an action as a special action. 1x Mega Attack - Destroy a minion with power less than the total power of your minions at its base. 1x Plan For More! - Reveal the top three cards of your deck. Draw any minions revealed; you may play one of them as an extra minion. Return the rest in any order. 1x Power Pose - Special: After a base scores where you were the winner, draw two cards.

Strategy

Mega Troopers have a unique limitation, restricting them from summoning additional minions, despite reaping benefits when multiple are stationed on a single base.

Synergies

Mega Troopers thrive on bases crowded with their own minions, despite being unable to play additional ones. To maximize their potential, pair them with factions that can provide substantial support. Factions with special abilities are particularly well-suited to complement the Mega Troopers, amplifying their effectiveness in battle.

Tips

Mega Troopers may seem straightforward at first, but their unique interactions and abilities can lead to surprising outcomes. The faction thrives when its minions work together, with half of the Troopers relying on the presence of other minions to maximize their potential. Megabot, in particular, requires a minion presence and amplifies their power, making teamwork a key strategy. The Black Trooper's ability to gain +1 power from any source, including enemies and allies, adds a layer of complexity to the faction's gameplay. Mega Troopers boast an impressive array of special abilities, rivaling any other faction in the game. Many of these abilities trigger when a base is broken or scored, similar to those found in other factions like Shinobi, Scout, Pirate King, and Cthulhu's Chosen, and are featured on cards like Green Trooper, Pink Trooper, Megabot, and Blue Trooper, as well as Beta 6. These abilities often require the relevant card to be in play, reducing the element of surprise but allowing for careful planning. As a result, Mega Troopers excel at turning the tide of battle in their favor at the last moment, creating an air of suspense and uncertainty around base breaks. Like Ninjas, they prefer bases to break when all players have contributed roughly equally, making it difficult for opponents to anticipate their moves. A cautious opponent will keep track of the Mega Troopers' threat level on a base and may avoid engaging, delaying the base's break. While other factions may be more aggressive in breaking bases, Mega Troopers have ways to unleash a burst of power and take control. Cards like Green Trooper and Lightning Rescue! can be particularly unpredictable, and combining Megabot with Blitzing Sword Attack can lead to a stunning reversal of fortune. By carefully timing these cards, players can flip a losing situation into a winning one.
